In The Name Of Being Macho – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time, in a place called New York there lived a little kid named Llyod. He loved Christian comic books much more than the average kid. He loved to read them and collect them. His private collection was becoming a bit of a legend all by itself.

Llyods big brother, Bernard who was 19 years old mocked Llyod that he was 14 and still reading comic books. He told him that he should have out grown them when he turned 13, and hes only being a sissy and freak to not let go of reading comics.

Comics are not for the Alpha male, Llyod, Bernard would always tell his brother.

Llyod wanted to be tough and live up to his big brother’s standards but he just didn’t know if he could let go of reading Christian comics. His love for Christian comic books ran deep: ocean deep.

Llyod found himself regularly arguing and asking questions to Bernard as to what makes a cool thing like Christian comics suddenly become uncool not because of the quality of the comics getting poorer but because you got a little older.

One day, their Mum walked in on their argument. After hearing both sides out, their Mum told Llyod that he shouldn’t listen to his brother. That everybody has the right to do or be whatever they wanted to be as far as it wasn’t hurting anyone else or themselves or was an act of disobedience against God. She told him that its best he’s true to himself and that things generally end badly for those who deny themselves the privilege of being themselves just to please others. She said that Jesus would want him to keep reading comics because Jesus wouldn’t want him to trade his happiness for what he taught an alpha male should be.

The days that followed were full of Bernard making fun of Llyod for reading comics and deciding to be a sissy forever, until it was just too much for Llyod to bear and so he decided to give up comic books despite how bad it hurt inside.

Bernard insisted he helped Llyod throw away the comics. He had never offered to help Llyod with anything before. Why this and Why now? Llyod wondered.

Bernard said he just wanted to make sure the comics got thrown away. Ok! That made perfect sense. But when Llyod wanted to follow Bernard to go throw away the comics, Bernard refused and said it was best he went alone. Llyod couldnt see a reason why but he just let it slide.

Years later when they had both grown up and they were both married with children, Llyod along with his wife and two kids paid a surprise visit to Bernards home for Bernards first sons high school graduation party, and he was shocked beyond words when he found Bernard re-reading his stack of old Christian comics that he said hed help Llyod throw away. Plus, he had a large stack of very new ones too. Regret filled Lloyd’s heart. If only he had known he would have listened to Mum. He could have been true to himself. His brother had only wanted the comics for himself.

I’m Only Eating All This Now Because I Don’t Know If I Would Eat In The Evening – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time there lived a little Christian girl named Cindy. She loved the Lord with all her heart and loved her Mum and Dad too.

Cindy wanted to be a child actor and she made her Mum take her to audition for roles. Her Mum was very supportive because she was an actress too but she wanted her daughter to start staring earlier than she started starring in movies. She wanted to give her daughter the early opportunity that she wished she had. She could relate with her daughter’s dreams now because they were similar to her dreams when she was her age.

Cindy’s Dad was also very supportive. He also was in the movie business too but he was not an actor.

Since Cindy and her Mum were Christians they could not accept any and any role. Cindy’s Mum had to read the script inside out because Hollywood is sometimes heartless and would cast kids in the most inappropriate and evil roles imaginable; not caring about what damage they are doing psychologically to the actor or to their audience.

Even though Cindy wanted to star in a Christian movie, Cindy’s best bet was to star in a “Family Friendly” movie; because Hollywood hates to talk about Jesus unless they are using his name as a curse word.

Cindy’s Mum finally struck gold. She found the best script she could possibly get. It was very family friendly even though it had a scene that was a little disturbing, her daughter’s character would not be in that particular scene.

Cindy auditioned for the role and she won. She was very happy. She had gotten her first big role in a major motion picture film.

Cindy, her Mum and her Dad went out to celebrate.

Cindy’s Mum became her official manger even though she was still an actress herself and had her own manager.

Shooting schedules where hectic and Cindy often times didn’t know when she would be eating. She went from having fixed times for breakfast, lunch and dinner to having lunch at dinner time and sometimes even having breakfast at dinner time.

Her new world was really taking a toll on her and sometimes because of confused, mixed up and unknown times for her next meal; Cindy often found herself hungry during takes.

To make matters worse, since Hollywood is skinny – crazy; Cindy’s character was supposed to be skinny.

Now that won’t have been a problem if Cindy had a fixed and regulated eating schedule but sadly she didn’t and since her Mum wasn’t always there because she had her own acting roles herself; she didn’t observe every little thing that Cindy was struggling with because of her new life even though she observed some things and helped her daughter out with the things she needed help in knowing.

One day, another little girl on the set was in Cindy’s dressing room. They had come to be friends even though Cindy knew the girl was not a Christian. The girl’s name was Jessica.

Cindy complained to Jessica about her problems with the impromptu shooting times and her forever changing meal times.

Jessica told Cindy that she is going to give her some advise as a friend on how she herself handles it but she must promise not to tell anybody even her Mum.

Cindy promised.

Jessica told Cindy that she should always eat two meals or three meals ahead and skip the meals she added to her “2 in 1″ meal when the time for that meal comes. In other words, in the morning she should also eat her afternoon food if she is not sure that she would be free in the afternoon, then when afternoon comes if she happens to be free she should not eat that afternoon because she already ate her afternoon food along with her morning food. That way even if she not free in the afternoon she would not feel it.

It sounded wise to Cindy. She thanked Jessica over and over again for sharing with her; her precious show – biz success secret.

Cindy didn’t tell her Mum about it. She started practicing what she had learnt from Jessica.

The lady that Cindy’s Mum told to watch over Cindy when she was not around saw what Cindy was doing and cautioned her about it but Cindy didn’t listen to her since she was not an actress. After all, what did she know about show – biz? Cindy was only bothered that she had not practiced her show – biz success secret secretly enough, and somebody had found out.

Cindy became more secretive about her new eating methods so that nobody else would be able to know her precious show – biz success secret which she had learned from her very good friend, Jessica.

Cindy often found herself still eating her afternoon food even when she ate her morning and afternoon food in the morning.

Cindy didn’t notice that she was now faced with a new struggle that stood the risk of making her fat, as opposed to her old struggle that only stood the risk of leaving her hungry a little longer than normal; until Cindy could not fit into her costumes one day.

The director was furious. The costumes were expensive. They could not start sewing new costumes to fit her added weight with the budget they had.

The director, like the rest of Hollywood was skinny – crazy so to him; a movie with a female lead actor any short of skinny wasn’t good even though it was a family friendly movie.

The director started thinking of a solution while Cindy was trying to lose weight, still eating with her new eating formula that Jessica had given her.

No matter what Cindy did, she kept gaining weight until a fitness trainer was assigned to her and found out about her strange eating formula.

Before Cindy could begin to properly loose weight, some of the studio heads where already angry with the delay in the shooting and so they took advantage of a clause in her contract that would have almost needed a magnifying glass to see to kick Cindy off the set. Cindy’s eyes opened when Jessica laughed at Cindy and told her that they had given her her former role.

Cindy now learnt a real success – secret: that we should be cautious about making friends or receiving advise from people; especially when we find ourselves in environments where the people are notorious for being ungodly.

Injections Freak Me Out – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time there lived a little Christian girl named Nancy. She was also a Tomboy and she loved to play soccer with her friends everyday after school. Her Mum allowed her to play outside after school as long as she finished her homework first and also finished the little shores she had to do around the house. She loved playing more than anything and she loathed injections more than anything.

One day, after Nancy’s Mum had brought her back from school, Nancy’s Mum told Nancy that should would be coming back a bit late so she and her twin sister Becky should be good. She (Mum) would be going to a missionary doctor’s house to discuss some church matters with him as she was one of the key coordinators of the church’s affairs.

That day, after Nancy finished her homework and her shores she was about to rush out with her ball to play soccer but it started to pour down rain.

Nancy was ballistic. She couldn’t believe it. Just when she was about to have some more fun it just started to rain.

Nancy’s Mum never allowed Nancy to play out in the rain so Nancy knew what the rain beginning to fall meant to her opportunity to play. But wait, there was something different this time. It was that her Mum wasn’t around. Even though she knew that if her Mum was around she wouldn’t have let her go out to play in the rain, Nancy still stepped out into the rain.

Nancy’s twin sister, Becky pulled Nancy back into the house. A little argument followed which was followed by Becky saying, “don’t say I didn’t warn you”, and Nancy saying, “you are not Mum. I can do whatever I want.”

Nancy tried to get the other girls who played soccer with her to get out of their house and play with her but they all taught that she was crazy for wanting to play in the rain.

Nancy was angry with them and a bit disappointed. If they didn’t want to have fun she would still have fun. She decided to go back inside the house and bring out her and her sister’s basketball ball so she would shoot hoops under the rain in their backyard. She had always been a strong willed person.

Becky just relaxed and watched her sister from inside the house like someone who was watching a cartoon.

5 hours later, Nancy was lying in bed sick.

Becky walked over to her sister and said, “I told you so.”

Nancy was too sick to have the strength to argue. She however began to softly plead with Becky that she shouldn’t mention that she is sick to Mum because she just knew that Mum would take her to the hospital and they would give her an injection and nothing freaked her out in the world more than injections.

Becky told Nancy that she couldn’t be serious because Mum would still find out by herself that she’s sick when she sees her, even if nobody says anything.

Nancy still begged Becky to keep quiet. She told her that she had a plan to keep Mum from finding out anything is worth doing if it would keep her from taking an injection.

Late that evening, after their Mum arrived Nancy pretended to be already asleep and already tucked up in bed while Becky welcomed Mum into the house.

When their Mum entered the twins room to check up on Nancy, Becky distracted Mum to prevent her from getting close and kissing Nancy Good Night because then she would feel her temperature and know that Nancy was sick.

Somehow the plan worked and it looked as if Nancy would get away with going to sleep sick.

Later that night after everyone one in the house had retired to bed, Becky told Nancy that she didn’t think it was a good idea for her to go to bed sick that she had a really bad feeling about it.

Nancy told Becky that she knew what she was doing. We told her everything would be alright.

A few hours later, Nancy was now shivering in bed, the sickness had grown worse. Nancy forced herself to endure, anything was better than injections. She tried to force herself to sleep but woke up five minutes later feeling a whole lot worse. At his point it became clear to Nancy that if she didn’t get help soon she wouldn’t make it to the next morning.
Nancy woke up her sister to wake up her Mum and tell her what’s going on.

Nancy’s Mum quickly rushed Nancy to the hospital with Becky accompanying them. And as you would guess Nancy was given an injection. It was then that Nancy realized that injections like most things in life (example hard work) may not be pleasant or the most fun thing in the world to do but at the end of the day it is the result that it brings that makes it worth while.

Don’t be afraid of injections or anything else you know is good for you but is not pleasant to do. The result it would bring should be what would steer you on.

Love Is The Answer – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time in a land far far away there lived two kings. One’s name was Duncan while the other one’s name was Victor.

King Duncan was the King of the people of Tish and King Victor was the King of the people of Ling.

The two Kings were at war and had been fighting for years. No one seemed to be winning the battle but lives were lost on both sides everyday.

King Victor had gotten very old and it was clear that he would soon be leaving the land of the living. He was already too old to be leading his people much less leading them in times of war, and it was also clear that he would have to appoint a new ruler to sit on the throne soon.

King Victor had six sons. Which of his sons is he going to pick; was the question on everyone’s mind in his castle but no one ever spoke about it out in the open. But in any case everyone knew in their minds that King Victor was going to choose his first son, the brave Prince Casper. He was handsome, strong and well read. He already had a record of successfully leading a few major battles. If any one was fit for the throne it was him.

The faithful day for King Victor to choose a successor finally came and he had ordered for everyone in the kingdom to be gathered.

To every one’s surprise, King Victor choose his youngest son to be his successor.

His youngest son, Prince Placid was a gentle and quiet soul. He had never gone to war ever in his life and he read books that at the time was strange to people in the land of far far away. One of such books is the bible.

No one could believe that the King had chosen Prince Placid; but the King’s decision was the King’s decision and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

Days later, King Victor died and Prince Placid became King Placid.

The first thing King Placid’s advisers wanted to know was how be planned to continue and also win the war against King Duncan who had withstood his father and his army for so many years.

King Placid simply answered, “With peace and love.”

They taught he must have flipped but no one dared speak because he was the King.
King Placid’s first act was to order the soldiers to dress in non-battle gear and then march to King Duncan’s land carrying all sorts of foods and yummy treats to give to the people of Tish (King Duncan’s kingdom). King’s Placid told them that he is doing this because the bible tells us that we should love every one for God loves everyone. And that the people of King Duncan’s kingdom have suffered just as much as the people of his kingdom because of the war.

King’s Placid’s people taught he was crazy and extremely unworthy to be King but there was nothing they could do, he was their King so they had to carry out his orders.

When the people of King Duncan’s kingdom saw their enemies bringing them food that they really needed, they were surprised. They taught it was some kind of trick so they asked the soldiers of King Placid who were bringing the food to taste it first so that they could be certain that it is not poisoned. Minutes later, the soldiers of King Placid where eating happily with the people of King Duncan’s kingdom.

When King Duncan heard of this he was outraged. He did not care about the fact that his enemies had brought his people food. He was just furious because his people and King Placid’s people had sat down together and eaten together.

King Duncan immediately got his soldiers together and ordered them to attack King Placid’s kingdom.

When news of this reached King Placid, his advisers where thinking that surely King Placid would surely be regretting his earlier decision right now.

However, to their surprise King Placid gave an order that none of the soldiers of the army that is about to attack them was to be hurt. Now his advisers taught that he had definitely flipped but what could they do, he was the King.

King Placid then added that his soldiers should build an impenetrable wall of fire between the approaching soldiers of King Duncan and his own people. The fire was to be so hot and so thick that none of the enemy soldiers would dare think of running through it.

It was done as King Placid had said, and so it was impossible for King Duncan’s soldiers to cross through to harm King Placid’s people. King Duncan’s people also observed that none of King Placid’s people where interested in hurting them. After they got tired of trying in vain they had to return to their land. King Duncan was angry when he received the news that his people could do nothing. He just sat in his chair and fumed.

Meanwhile, back in the land of Ling, King Placid gathered his soldiers to together. The advisers wondered what it would be this time.

King Placid told and his soldiers to carry more free food to King Duncan’s people. They weren’t to wear their solider’s uniform and they should allow any civilians that wanted to go with them to go with them but carrying food for King Duncan’s people too.

King Duncan’s people where shocked to see King Placid’s people coming with food. They couldn’t understand it. Away minutes later they where all eating together like one people – they were all eating together like no such thing as a war existed between them.

When King Duncan heard of this he was so furious that he matched out there and ordered that every one from King Placid’s kingdom present should be killed.

Surprisingly, King Duncan’s own people protested against him. They said that all he wants is war war war. They said that he’s only thinking about himself and not them, his people. They told King Duncan that the new king of Ling, King Placid doesn’t wan’t war and quite frankly they are glad that at least one king is tired of the war. The war had taken up a lot of their resources and is the major reason while many of them lack food. Besides they added, they had just made new friends with some of the people of King Placid’s kingdom that were present and they had to admit that peacefully eating together sure makes them wish they would do it forever and not have to return to the reality that they should be at war in the morning.

“WHAT???”, King Duncan cried. “THIS IS TREASON. There would be war. There is a war and There would always be a war until we win. But in the mean time all you traitors must die along with the people of King Placid whom you call your new best friends.”

King Duncan had ordered that his own people who wanted the war to end peacefully to be killed.

Well, lets just say that a few hours after that, King Duncan was beaten and chased away from his own kingdom by his own people. The people of the former King Duncan joined the people of King Placid and they became one people. Thus, the war was over. All because King Placid choose to follow the way of the bible and follow the way of peace in-spite of how irrational it looked at times, he had not only ended a war but he had also gained a kingdom. Thanks be to Jesus.

Lord, I Need Your Help My Daddy Fell Into A Coma – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time there lived a rough teenage boy named Collin. He didn’t believe in God and he loathed any attempt by anyone to tell him about God, especially attempts made by his father.

Collin’s Dad kept trying and trying to bring his son to Christ but his son just won’t let go of his hatred for God. He was extremely mad at God. He was mad at his Dad too because his Dad only showed up in his life a year after his Mum died and he had had to live on the rough and merciless streets since her death.

Collin’s Dad came saying he had just become a Christian and he wants to make amends and that he now realizes what a mistake it was for him to walk out on Collin and his mother.

No matter what Collin’s Dad did for Collin to get him to forgive him and also to accept Christ, it only seemed to make Collin hate God more. Even though he now lived in a large house with his Dad he continually did what he had always done, but this time he did it in rebellion.
He ran with the wrong crowd and he soon joins a gang.

His Dad finds out weeks later and is devastated.

In anger, he tracks down the secret location where the gang has meetings and bursts into one of their meetings and in anger started shouting at them and told them to stay away from his son.

Collin’s Dad ends up getting severely stabbed by the gang members. Collin tried to stop them but all his efforts to protect his Dad where in vain. When one of them stabbed Collin too, Collin’s eyes started to clear up a little and he could now see who his real friends where. His real friends were definitely not the gang members around him. All he had was family and his last family relative – his Dad lay at his feet fighting for his life totally covered in stab wounds all because of him.

Collin announced in anger that he was going to retire from the gang right there and then and as the gang members stepped forward to beat him because according to the rules their is no such thing as out, Collin flicked on a lighter and threw it into nearby gallon of a highly flammable fuel. He had set fire on the gang’s secret hide out. In the commotion, Collin escaped, partially carrying his wounded father who was using what was left of this strength to help his son help him get away.

Hours later, Collin’s Dad was lying in a hospital in a coma. Collin has nothing else to do but to call on God.

He tries to recall everything his Dad had ever told him about God. He was also under major pressure because he knows that for turning away from the gang the gang would have revenge by getting at him to kill him and his dad also.

Collin prays and prays. The praying that his father did that he detested was now what he did or at least was trying to do. He needed a miracle.

Collin ran to a church and told the pastor everything. The pastor counseled him, lead him to Christ and went to the hospital with him to pray for his father. The Pastor also used his influence to get the police to protect Collin and his Dad.
The pastor put Collin in a program for recovering gang members and by the time Collin was out of the months long program, his Dad had woken up from the coma.

Collin rushed to his father’s side with tears in his eyes. He threw his arms around him and said’ “Father, I’m sorry for everything. I have been a fool. I know you are sorry you left me and Mum. I forgive you for that. I know you love me. Now I ask that you forgive me for the many times I’ve turned down your love since you returned.”

Tears were now flowing down Collin’s Dad’s cheeks like the perfect picture of a spring in the mountains of paradise.
“I do son. I love you more than you can ever imagine.”

This is so much like God’s love for us. God loves us so much that in-spite of our many transgressions he still loves us. Even when you do not love him, he still loves you and when you are ready to come to him, he rushes out with open arms to accept you into his kingdom. God loves us all. God is love.

Investment Prayers – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time in a a Christian boarding school somewhere in America there lived a guy named James. He and everybody that where in the same school house he was in were in a very anxious place right now. Their house director was to be replaced and what bothered them was the question; would the replacement be strict & forceful or would he be more of a laid back character?

All their anxieties where put to rest when the replacement was introduced two days later. After a few weeks of him being their house director, it was clear that he certainly wasn’t the laid back type. One of the changes that the house director brought about was a radical increase in the mandatory prayer time.

James and his fellow house mates protested the increase in prayer time. It’s not like they didn’t like prayer. It was that they had never had to pray for an entire hour before. They told the house director that by then they would have already prayed for all they needed to pray for and there would be nothing else to pray for.

The house director told them that when they run out of things to pray for, they should pray for their futures – they should pray for the unknown – they should pray that whatever they want to see in their tomorrows is what they would see when tomorrow comes.

James and his fellow house mates had never heard of the idea of praying prayers to create your tomorrow – prayers that advert bad things before they even had a chance to begin to take form. The idea had a certain quality to it. They soon nick-named this type of prayers, Investment Prayers. Even though they prayed the prayers, they still didn’t like the increase in their compulsory prayer time.

Nobody seemed to hate the increase in prayer time more than James especially as it took away from his play time.

Like a mutiny on the high seas in progress, James gathered his fellow house mates together and cooked up a plot to get rid of their house director.

Using the school’s rules that said a few things about what could get house director dismissed, James submitted a petition to the principal along with the signatures of everyone in the house that strongly indicated that they did not like their new house director.

James knew that, that would not be enough to get rid of the house director so he utilized the skills of a fellow house mate who could forge just about anybody’s handwriting, and he had a letter drawn up that was sure to get the house director out of the school entirely if the school principal saw it.

James planted the letter where the principal was sure to find it but yet put in a location that it was logical for it to be and where the house director can keep something so delicate that he expects the school principal not to find it.

After James finished with that he went to the cafeteria to eat but then a friend from another house in the school mentioned an observation, he said that ever since their new house director showed up James had never had to struggle or had any issues with the school authorities. It was like if his life had gotten smoother.

That was when it hit James. It was the Investment Prayers.James stood up and rushed out of the cafeteria to stop his plan which was already in motion, but it was too late. The school principal had already seen the note that was planted.

The house director got kicked out of the school and even though James was viewed as a hero by his fellow house mates, he knew in his heart what he had cost them all. Who knows whatever beneficial thing that the house director was yet to teach them?

He had cost a good man his job. The quilt ate away at James and kept getting stronger until the point where he could not take it anymore. He confessed and got expelled. But at least he had gotten that weight of his chest. But if there is one thing he didn’t let go, it is the lessons that he had learnt.

Lucy & The Tablet Device – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time but not far back in time at all, there lived a pretty little girl in a really lovely place called California. The little girl’s name was Lucy and she was a devoted Christian girl.

Lucy wanted a handheld tablet device more than any other material thing in the world. She didn’t want it for any of the wrong reasons that other girls her age would want it which is to show off. She wanted it so that she can have an entire library of books at hand, a cool way to check her e-mails and communicate with reasonable friends as well as family, and also update her blog where she shares her tiny little nuggets of wisdom with the world.

Lucy’s Mum had told her that she was just too young to have a tablet device. She was still in kindergarten and some folks in junior high don’t even have tablet devices.

Lucy talked to her Mum for hours pointing out the reasons why she needed a tablet device: The ease of storing and reading books on a tablet device, the ease of buying books, the helpful apps that actually are useful and improve your efficiency as opposed to filling your tablet with computer game apps which doesn’t add anything to your life.

Lucy won her Mum over when she informed her that there was a free app she would download & install that would protect her from accessing inappropriate and visually immoral content online.

Lucy’s Mum told Lucy that even though she now doesn’t see any reason why she can’t buy Lucy a tablet device seeing that she intends to use it for the right reasons, there is still the question of the money.

Therefore, at the end of the day Lucy still wasn’t going to get any tablet from her Mum.

Lucy decided that she would save money for it in her piggy bank. It might take a long time but at least that way she would be doing something to get what she wants, it certainly beats doing nothing.

While walking down a street many months later, Lucy saw an old beggar sitting on the sidewalk. He looked like he hadn’t eaten in months. People ignored him and went right past him as he begged them to put some money in his empty little bowl. Lucy felt pity for him, the more she looked at him the more she was filled with compassion for him. Lucy didn’t have any money to give him at that moment but she remembered the money that she had been saving up to buy the tablet device. It was far from enough money for it’s purpose and taking out even a little part of it would even lengthen the time would be able to get a tablet device.

Lucy decided to walk away and forget about the hungry beggar but then she remembered the sermon from last Sunday about doing unto others how we would want them to do unto us, she just couldn’t make up her mind to not help him.

Lucy knew what was the right thing to do. She knew that if she was the one who was sitting on the sidewalk with no family (that cares), shelter or food. She would definitely want someone whose got some food to give her some.

Lucy walked home and emptied out her piggy bank. She put all the money in her pocket then walked out of the house to find the beggar on the sidewalk. When she found him she give him all the money that she had been saving up.

The beggar recognized her as someone who had passed him before. That was when he figured out on his own that the girl must have gone home after seeing him in other to bring back money for him. The beggar couldn’t believe it, nobody had ever been so kind to him. He spoke some words of blessings to Lucy and thanked her over and over again.

Lucy left feeling happy. She had seriously lengthened the time-frame of her ever getting a tablet device yet she was happier than ever. She was full of that joy that you have when you know you’ve done the right thing in-spite of the advantages of doing otherwise.

Two days later, a limo pulled out in front of Lucy’s parents house. Lucy was in shock, no one her or her parents knew had a limo to the best of her knowledge. Who ever could it be?

The chauffeur stepped out the car and headed to the back door then opened it. To Lucy’s surprise out came the beggar.

It so happened that the money that Lucy gave him was used by him to buy some food along with a soft drink that happened to be doing a 10 million dollar promo, and it just so happened that he bought the very bottle of the soft drink that had the winning card inside. He was now a millionaire and one of the first things he wanted to do was to thank the little girl that showed him kindness by showering her with gifts.

He gave Lucy boxes upon boxes of gifts plus enough money to pay for her entire education from kindergarten to University. And guess what? One of the very many gifts that Lucy received that day was a brand new tablet device. Hallelujah!

Merry Christmas Not Happy Holidays – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time in a place called America, there lived a little girl named Martha. She walked happily back home with her Mum. They were just returning from the home of a friend of her Mum they had gone to visit.

As they got close to their home they saw a familiar store owner on their street taking down a sign. He was taking down the “Merry Christmas” sign.

Martha’s Mum asked him why, and he said that he was replacing it with a “Happy Holidays” sign.

Martha’s Mum asked an even louder, “WHY???”

From the tone of her voice it was obvious she didn’t like the idea at all. She told him that it’s Christmas not just any holiday. He has to put up a Christmas sign.

The man put up the “Happy Holidays” sign, came down the ladder, said “Sorry” and walked back into the store.

Martha’s Mum almost growled. She stomped her foot and then she took Martha’s hand and kept on walking home.

Martha asked her Mum why she is so angry about it.

Martha’s Mum explains to Martha that she wanted him to put up the “Merry Christmas” sign and not the “Happy Holidays” sign because we are celebrating “Christmas” and not “Holidays.”

Nobody wakes up in December to celebrate the gift of having Holidays. Every holiday must have a reason why it’s a holiday. There must be something we are commemorating: Something that means something to a group of people before it can be called a holiday. A holiday cannot be a holiday just for being a holiday, it can only be a holiday if there is something behind it that people are celebrating. The Independence Day holiday has the celebration of the nation’s independence behind it.

Memorial Day holiday has the commemoration of those who lost their lives fighting for their country behind it. Even Labour Day holiday CELEBRATES the achievement of workers and the labour movement. Why does Christmas Day have to be any different? Why must they remove Christ from Christmas.

First they removed Christ from Christmas holiday and made it X-Mas holiday. Then they said, you know what let’s throw away the X-Mas and just call it holiday. What are they planning to do next? Martha’s Mum told Martha that even though Christmas day isn’t technically Jesus’ birthday, it is the day that we have set aside to celebrate Jesus’ birthday and it has been that way for years even in the year that America was founded. But of recent some certain groups of people are using the so – called ideology of the separation of church and state to totally annihilate Christianity.

They are stealing away the people’s rights from practicing Christianity. They are gradually decreasing the number of places where Christianity can be practiced.

They are stealing the rights of the people of America to practice their beliefs. They’ve banned Christianity from schools, banned Christianity from public places, they’ve even gone as far as stealing a Christian holiday. They have stolen Christmas. Those groups that have this strong influence over the American Government and Media are the Grinch that stole Christmas.

When Martha and her Mum got home, Martha ponders about everything her Mum had said as she lay on her bed. She stares at a wall poster of Martin Luther King Junior in her room and an idea hits her. She takes permission to go outside from and her Mum and her Mum tells her that she can go. She taught that Martha was only going out to play.

Martha tells all the kids in the neighborhood about the Grinch that’s trying to steal Christmas and convinces them to join her to protest. They make signs on little cardboard papers and marched in a circle in front of the man’s store chanting, “Merry Christmas Not Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas Not Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas Not Happy Holidays, …” over and over again.

The kids told anyone who wanted to walk into the store that they shouldn’t shop there.

The number of kids soon increased and the kids all told the owner of the store that they would not allow their parents shop there until he takes down the “Happy Holidays” sign and replaces it with “Merry Christmas.”

The owner of the store figured at this point that he had better do what the kids say if he wants to stay in business. He took down the “Happy Holidays” sign and put up a “Merry Christmas” sign.

When all the other stores in the district heard what happened. They too took down their “Happy Holidays” signs and put up “Merry Christmas” signs.

Later that day, when Martha returned home her Mum asked her, “Did you have fun today honey?”

Martha smiled and said, “I sure did Mummy.”

Just So I Can Tell People That I Did It – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time there lived a 12 year old boy named Jonas. He wasn’t a Christian but the thing was that he had never really gotten the opportunity to really hear about Christ in-spite of the fact that he lived in America.

He always flipped by Christian TV channels because the presentation of their message never did appeal to him. He was more interested in heading for the cartoon channels to even stop and listen a bit to the Christian channels. And as far as hearing the gospel through traditional mediums went, it was quite impossible seeing that due to certain legislations the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus has been greatly streamlined and is closely monitored in every school by carefully hidden watchdog groups.

Jonas’ parents weren’t Christians, they weren’t even around 80% of the time. They always had some place away from Jonas that they had to be. They were rich but not yet millionaires. They pretty much left Jonas to raise himself even though they left him in the care of maids and butlers who easily got fired. I bet his parents didn’t even for a second think that they needed to spend time with their son. He was just someone that they provided for but clearly didn’t have any time in their busy schedules for.

In school Jonas started hanging with the wrong friends. Friends that were from a much much poorer background who were always getting into trouble with the school authorities. There was something about their rebellion – their defiance of the norm – their rock & roll attitude that appealed deeply to Jonas.

Jonas soon became friends with them. It took time before they officially accepted him as one of them. But now he was talking like them – acting like them – and getting into trouble often like them. Jonas was now a popular trouble maker in school. Of course his parents couldn’t know about it because they were too busy with their own lives to take a look at what was happening in the lives of their own son.

Jonas and his friends weren’t a gang. It was just a peer group of incorrigible lovers of trouble making. They didn’t seem to mind getting detention.

One day, a teacher risked the fact that there was no preaching and changing the lives of kids who are heading down the wrong path allowed in American schools, and the teacher called all the trouble makers together and talked to them about Jesus. She told them about God’s love for them and about the path to destruction they were on. She told them that they could do better than this. She spoke by the Spirit of God and delivered the most touching sermon so rich in love and wisdom that even a hardened criminal won’t react emotionless to it.

However for some reason, it didn’t seem to touch the boys. Rather they waited for her to finish speaking and then reported her to the principal and also to the ACLU just in case the principal wasn’t going to do anything about it.

The teacher ended up getting kicked out of the school and the ACLU made sure that it was on the news and looked like a local school teacher had done a really shameful thing.

However, what one man thinks is something to be ashamed of, another man thinks it is something to be proud of.

Christians in the community quickly applauded the teacher’s acts and she was quickly employed by a private Christian school that paid her a lot more money than her previous school. A church even gave her an award for standing up for what’s right in the face of insanity.

Jonas and his friends looked like victims and heroes at the same time to the ACLU. And can you imagine that Jonas parent’s were so self absolved that they didn’t know any of this happened. They didn’t watch local news (which I can’t say is unwise), they didn’t ask their son how his day in school went (which is super self-fish if you ask me), and they didn’t have any relationship whatsoever with anyone who had a kid in the same school their son went to (how would they when they never attended PTA meetings?).

As Jonas grew a bit older and still hung out with the same peers, they started doing really stupid things like spray painting the principal’s car, shop lifting candy from stores and even spreading rumors about other students. This they did all for fun. This is what gave them fun. They had been bad for so long that they saw nothing wrong with it and they didn’t seem like they could live without it.

One day, one of Jonas’ friends came up with the idea that they should move their game to a whole other level and rob a supermarket.

Jonas was skeptical of this, he had had no problem with being bad before but this was something else. He was like, “I don’t know guys..”

But Jonas’ friends convinced him that he should join them for their little adventure. They told him that he is young now and should feel free to break the rules and do whatever he wanted to do now so later in life he can change and then become good having experienced everything there is to experience and then when he sees younger people who claim to be bad doing something bad he can tell them that he’s done it before. He can look at them and say been there done that.

This stupid reason made sense to Jonas and so he agreed to join them in their plan to rob a supermarket.

On that appointed day they had chosen to rob a supermarket, Jonas stood outside the supermarket with his friends and with a gun concealed in his sweat jacket pockets. He shock off any remaining doubts and fear. He was going to do this. He was going to do this for the thrill of it and enjoy every moment of it so he can look back later in life when he see others do it and say been there done that.

Jonas and his friends walked into the supermarket and minutes later they had everyone at gun point. Some of Jonas’ friends were collecting stuff they liked while one was collecting the money in the cash register and for a moment Jonas was kinda standing alone. His number one fear that the cops would show up had just resurfaced. What if someone triggered a silent alarm or something he would be in deep soup. He would be neck deep in soup.

Suddenly, someone rushed at Jonas, he had planned to take Jonas by surprise but out of fright Jonas shot. Jonas killed the man.

When the shot rang out all of Jonas friends stopped all what they were doing and turned to the direction the sound of the gun shot came from. They saw Jonas with the dead man at his feet. They were shocked – afraid – very afraid; they had known Jonas had crossed a line from which their was no return.

They immediately left everything and ran out of the supermarket. They left Jonas standing there confused with a dead man at his feet. They abandoned Jonas.

Jonas didn’t run. He knew there was no point in running. He had just killed a guy. The police won’t rest until they found him. Things were different now. He was a kid who had just killed someone. He fell to his knees and cried out to God for help.

However, it was kinda too late for that because he was still going to face the consequences for what he had just done. If only he had known he would have asked God to come into his life earlier when the school teacher talked to him and his friends.

More Than Just A Cool Football Pose – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time, there lived a boy named Murphy. He was the Captain of his High School’s football team and he was just about the most influential student in the school.

He didn’t know God and his parents who didn’t know God either hadn’t even given him the privilege of learning even the smallest basic facts about the Bible.

One day, as Murphy arrived at school late as he usually did. He saw his friends looking at a picture on a tablet device and laughing.

Murphy walked up to them, “Hi, Guys!”

“Did you see the game last night?” one of them asked.

“I was kinda busy”, Murphy said trying to avoid saying the real reason why he didn’t see the game last night.

His friends looked at him strangely like how could a football fan such as himself be too busy to watch a super bowl game.
“So what is it?”, Murphy quickly said taking their attention back to the picture as he leaned in to look at the picture in the arms of the guy holding the tablet device.

“Some silly quarter back did this funny football pose.”

“But you gotta admit it looks cool.” another said.

“Well, it does look kinda cool.”, Murphy said as he examined the picture thoroughly.

Murphy didn’t know what it was about the picture that drew him but he just felt an attachment to the picture.

Murphy asked them to send the picture to his phone and they did just that.

Later on in school, Murphy found out that the picture had gone spiral on the web and was on everybody’s lips in school.

After lunch break, Murphy overhears some girls talking about the picture when he passed by them. They were saying that it was a picture of the athlete praying.
Murphy had heard about prayer before but he wasn’t sure what prayer meant.

Murphy went home that day and started to research what prayer was. He found out that a lot of different belief systems had some sort of prayer or the other. But the one that the athlete in the picture was doing looked more like a Christian type of prayer.

Murphy started researching Christianity and he started seeing the most beautiful things that he had ever seen in his life.
When Murphy came across John 3: 16 that says; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It just totally blew him away. Murphy had never seen anything so beautiful. He had never heard anything so beautiful. He had never known that something so beautiful could even be.

The more Murphy learnt about God, the more he wished that he had found this stuff a long time ago. He hadn’t really heard about what Christians believed before. It was just that a few times he had heard teachers and friends say that Christians are just a bunch of uneducated weirdoes, but he had never researched the matter for himself. And as he didn’t research it or debate it, those thoughts just formed the basis of everything he believed about Christianity; which was still not much, and was obviously in the wrong direction.

However, now to see all this beautiful things about Christianity, it really got real deep into his heart.

Murphy decided to go to church the following Sunday. He had the best time of his life EVER.

However, when he got back home carrying a new bible he had bought, he face stern criticism from his family and for the first time ever his mother supported his father’s taking him upstairs to beat him black and blue.

Normally, she would cry and bang on the door outside the room when he beat up Murphy but today was a different day. Today, in her mind they had to beat some common sense into Murphy.

Murphy was closely observed from that day on to make sure that he was not turning into a Christian.

His father threw the bible that Murphy bought into a dumpster after trying to tear it up.

Murphy simply downloaded a free Bible on his mobile device. He had finally found what he had been searching for all his life which he did not know that he has been searching for, and now nobody was going to take it away from him.

Since Murphy was not allowed to do anything that was Christian related, Murphy could not watch Christian TV channels that they had not because they subscribed to it but because it came with the cable.

So Murphy had to settle for downloading podcasts on his mobile device and reading good Christian blogs which are quite numerous online.

Murphy came across one blog one day that had a salvation prayer at the bottom along with a prayer to receive the Holy Ghost.

Murphy prayed the prayer. He felt so different after he prayed that he knew something definitely had happened. A change had definitely taken place.

Murphy felt compelled to pray and soon pouring out of his mouth were words that weren’t English: words that he didn’t understand – words that freaked him out. That was Murphy’s first experience with speaking in tongues.

Murphy immediately shut up. He was scared. He was afraid to speak for the next 30 minutes.

He was happy to later find out that he could still speak words in English.

Murphy decided that he would re-begin going to church whether anyone liked it or not. He just had to be sly about it – as sly as he could be.

Murphy figured that since his parents thought that church was only on Sunday Morning and they would be watching to make sure that they have accountability of where he is on Sunday Morning, he would go for only Midweek Service and Friday Evening service then skip Sunday Morning service.

His plan worked and his parents didn’t have a clue.

Now that Murphy was a Christian he was now happier. His heart was now at rest even though he belonged to an abusive home where his father beat him, his mother, his brother and as well as his sister anytime they didn’t do something quite the way he wanted it done.

Murphy’s home could have been called a classically dysfunctional and ‘hell on earth’ home.

His father was abusive. He beat up Murphy’s Mum regularly. They were always fighting and he was always drinking.
Murphy’s elder brother couldn’t get into college and he was happy and satisfied with listening to secular music all day and selling drugs on street corners every other hour. And then calling himself a made man and saying that the system is against him that it’s not his fault, yet he is still fighting back and making his own paper.

Murphy’s sister’s case was more classic and sad. Her life was just a never ending tale of a college girl who had one heart break after the other at the average rate of two heart breaks per week. One would think that she went to college to meet guys.

Murphy began to pray for the salvation of his family members. He even set aside a day of the week to fast about it.

Murphy soon makes friends at church. He explains to them all that he is going through and he tells them that anytime they visit him at home, they shouldn’t do anything that would give away the fact that they are Christians. They should just march straight to his room.

His new friends helped him out with his Christian walk a lot. They helped explain what speaking in tongues is to him. They helped answer questions that he had. They even prayed for the salvation of his family daily like he did.

Murphy had learnt that God hears prayers so he knew that for certain,God would answer his prayers and save his family. However, things got worse and his Mum files divorce papers.Murphy wonders why.
His new friends tell him that now is the time when they cannot lose faith and that they had to pray now even more than ever.
One day, while praying in one of his friend’s house, they get a word from God that Murphy should go home right that instant and have an honest conversation with his Mum.

Murphy ran home immediately. When he got home he found his Mum in the living room, alone. She was crying on the sofa.
Murphy sat down beside his Mum and started talking to his Mum. She was totally downcast. She was hurting big time, on the inside and on the outside.
2 hours after Murphy finished talking to his Mum, she gave her heart to Christ.
Murphy called his brother and sister for a family meeting like if he was the Boss of the house. The Spirit of God was with him and all those times of prayers had set things up for the best to occur at a moment like this.

His brother and sister where surprised to see that Murphy and Mum where now Christians. But what was more predominant in their minds and hearts was the message they shared with them. They gave their hearts to Christ too.

They prayed for their Dad and decided that they would all talk to him about Jesus when he got back home from work.

When he got home, they welcomed him like if nothing had happened. He wondered why his wife was smiling at him. She had not smiled at him like that in years.

After they’d given him his favorite meal to eat they began to talk to him about Jesus. So that was it, he thought.
They’ve all gone crazy and religious.
Dad stood up from the table and started beating up their Mum.

For the first time in history, his kids stepped in to stop him. He was shocked. They were no more afraid of him. It didn’t really do them any good because he was stronger than all of them put together.

However, something about what his wife was saying. Something about his wife trying to lay her hands on his forehead and saying “I command you demon to get out of him”, while he beat her made him stop. He didn’t know why he stopped but he just didn’t feel like continuing. He couldn’t explain why.

From that day on, Dad started given them all some distance. It was like he hated them and was angry with them for becoming Christians. But interestingly, since then all the beatings had stopped and no one had said anything about the divorce papers. It was a forgotten matter, just like if it never existed in the first place.

Months past by but the rest of the family just kept praying for Dad. Murphy’s brother had now left his bad friends and his drug selling goals alone. He was now reading to take some exams that if he passes he would finally get into college.

Murphy’s sister was now for the first time in her life boyfriend-less. The even bigger miracle was that she was happy even though she was boyfriend-less. She was enjoying being single and whole. She was happy waiting for the right guy to come alone instead of jumping upon any train that passes her by.

Murphy’s mother was now nicer, neater, more loving. She was even so nice to Dad that Dad liked being around her more than drinking, even though he wouldn’t admit it.

However, one day as the rest of the family was going to church; Dad decided that he would drive them. After dropping them off, because of packing lot difficultly and because he couldn’t wait to be around his wife again; he decided that he would just wait in the car. So he adjusted the car sit and lay back to fall asleep, when the service is over and his family comes out of the church he would drive them back home; and return to the peace he now felt in his wife’s company.

However, as Dad tried to sleep in his car in the church parking lot; the parking lot was still in the range of the church speakers so Dad could still hear the sermon.

The sermon was about love and God and it also had stories of the most awesome testimonies Dad had ever heard.

By the time the altar call was given, Dad ran out of the car and ran into the church. He headed straight for the altar. There; he knelt down, lifted up his hands, and received Christ into his heart.

His family saw him and they were all pouring down tears.

Dad joined a men’s group in church and he also apologized over and over again to his wife and kids about how he treated them through the years.

The growth process wasn’t instantaneous for Dad, but he was growing everyday and surprising his family with his goodness and kindness everyday.

He was finally knowing what it feels like to grow into a man. And as every wise person knows: Real Men Love Jesus.

Murphy was deeply grateful to God. God had answer his prayers and had saved his family.God had turned his ‘Hell On Earth Home’ into a ‘Home Sweet Home.’

All this while, Murphy had not been very open and vocal about his faith in school. He knew what it could cost him.

He still lived for Christ but the fact that he kept it on the low made it a thing that only a few people knew but didn’t take serious because they taught he didn’t take it serious. But one day, Murphy decides to start being loud and more out spoken about his beliefs like the athlete from the picture who kinda started it all.

He starts by wearing a T – Shirt written, “I BELONG TO CHRIST.”

People laughed at him and even his football buddies who had never really made fun of him before because he was just too cool; made fun of him for the first time, on that day.

Murphy went hard and soon got popular around the school for wearing a “JESUS LOVES YOU” jacket.

Soon it looked like the whole school had started making fun of him. People even started calling him the name of the guy from the picture.

The persecution got so bad that at a point Murphy got deeply discouraged about being open about his faith. Perhaps he would just keep his faith low key like he always had.

The next day, Murphy walked into the school premises without so much as a hand band that had the name “JESUS” on it.
Everybody noticed.

Nobody criticized him that day.

However, some people were disappointed. They liked his brave show of his faith.
A specific group of Christians in school were greatly disappointed about it and so they reached out to him to encourage him and to stand by him because iron sharpeneth iron. They soon became close friends with him and he joined their Bible fellowship in school.

Murphy started wearing the Jesus shirts again and the persecution and the criticism re-began.

The teachers hated Murphy’s Jesus shirts and the Principal hated it most.

One day, after a game with another school which his school won; Murphy pulled off his jersey in the middle of the field with everyone watching him and under his jersey was another shirt. On it was written, “JESUS LOVES YOU MORE THAN YOU LOVE YOURSELF.”

Then, Murphy ran round the football field over and over again gathering attention with everybody watching him.

Murphy’s family clapped for him.

A few Christians in the crowd loved it, some people didn’t know what to make of it, some where pissed about it and some people somehow told themselves that the message on Murphy’s shirt was offensive. (How somebody loving you is offensive is something I would never know).

After that display the principal got angry and he called together an emergency assembly. He didn’t mention Murphy’s name but it was clear that his speech was targeted at Murphy. The long speech boiled down to; he, the principal would suspend anyone who publicly displays their personal faith on school premises again. The principal also rambled a lot about honoring the separation of Church and State.

Murphy wasn’t moved. He had an idea. An idea that would blow the principal’s socks off and make him blow his top if he wants to; and sat the same time.

Now, the school was in financial trouble. It had been for months; but nobody but the principal and the school board knew that they were in need of funding without which the school would close down. All thanks to some poor decisions make by the board.

The next day, at the game; Murphy’s plan was set in motion. After the game, he and all the members of the football team took off their shirts and under it was written: “JESUS IS LORD.”

Now, every member of the football team wasn’t a Christian but wearing Jesus shirts and stirring up controversy had suddenly become a cool thing to do. Murphy knew that, so he used that to convince them to do it with him whether they won the game or not.

Murphy and the rest of the football team started doing funny dance moves in middle of the football fields with their “JESUS IS LORD” T – Shirts on.

Half the crowd was angry and the other half was happy.

Interestingly, the display of faith pleased a huge sponsor of education in the country who was at the game. He was someone the principal had been trying to please for months so that he would donate enough money to save the school.

The sponsor told the principal that he was glad that there was still a good school that teaches good Christian principles in America.

The principal was so excited that he called together an emergency assembly.

The whole school was thinking that their star football player was going to get chewed out and then suspended if not expelled. They knew that he wouldn’t suspend the whole football team, but who knows; maybe Murphy had succeeded in getting him that angry.

As the principal stood in front of the school he said, “From now on Christianity is to be practiced freely in this school. As a matter of fact, it is hereby encouraged you do so from now on. Any intolerance of Christianity would be unfair and unaccepted. The so – called separation of church and state which was clearly written by men who felt free to express their faith is hypocritical and UN – AMERICAN if it bans people from expressing their faith; especially if it stands against those from the Christian faith.”

Then the Principal turned to look at the teachers who like the students where looking at him with their mouths wide open. “…And F.Y.I (For Your Information); I am now a Christian. I just asked my star student; Murphy to lead me to Christ some minutes ago.”
