Help – Jesus = ? – by Alfred (a short story for kids)

Once upon a time in a city much like the one you live in right now there lived a little boy named Fred.

Fred loved to help people. Anytime someone was in trouble and Fred found out about it, you could be sure that Fred would do something to help even though he knew he couldn’t bring everyone out of trouble.

You could say that Fred had the heart of a Super Hero – That irresistible urge to lay it all on the line just so someone would be helped.

All Fred knew was that he was born to help people. He loved the feeling he got when he helped people. He loved that feeling of fulfilling one’s purpose. He loved that smile that radiated from people when he helped them. He loved knowing that he had made someone’s life easier because of something he said or did.

Fred’s inspiration came from the church. He did what he did because of Jesus. He was one of those kids who loved to go to church. He loved the sermons, the music, the people and the atmosphere. He was firmly rooted in the gospel and knew that Jesus was the answer to every human problem.

Anytime Fred offered to help someone his solution was always Christ – Centered.

As the years went by and Fred became a college student, he had a long conversation with a professor who noticed Fred’s irresistible desire to help people.

The professor convinced Fred to stop trying to make the people he helped Christians too, that it could be a barrier because not everyone would be willing to let go of their beliefs and then he wouldn’t be able to help them because all he has to offer is a solution that is Christ – Centered.

The professor told him to separate everything that had to do with Jesus from the advice he gave people and the help he rendered people. He doesn’t have to stop being a Christian but he had to stop presenting Jesus as the only solution.
Fred agreed with the professor and started giving advice to people without including Jesus as the center of the solution.

Years later Fred was a successful and world renowned psychologist. He couldn’t quite put his finger on the reason why but he was still unhappy. He was helping people but he knew that he could help them much more and ensure they don’t do the same thing that started the problem in the first place.

The world had changed a lot and talking about Jesus or religion had become very controversial. Whatever would he do? He could get into trouble with the professional community if he began to talk about Jesus now.

One day a couple came to him with their problem and it was clear that if he did not talk to them about Jesus their problem would only get worse and one or both of them would end up dead.

Fred browsed through all the books on psychology that he had to find an alternative solution. He searched and searched but he could find anything. He was now faced with the difficult decision of choosing between his career and the reason he choose his career.

After a lot of thought, Fred realised that he didn’t have a choice. He had to talk to them about Jesus otherwise one or both of them would die. That was it. He had to choose the reason he choose his career – He had to choose to save lives.
Fred spoke to them about Jesus and the problem was solved. It was solved so easily that he made up his mind to always talk about Jesus. That was the thing that was missing in his life. That was the thing that was missing from his many successes; The feeling of helping people with the gospel of Jesus – The feeling of not only helping to quench people’s problems here on earth but also giving them eternal life – The joy of soul winning – That joy that can only be gotten from soul winning. It was so special – so remarkable – so awesome – so sweet. It was a feeling that was more precious than receiving a bag of gold. It was honey to the helper’s soul.

Today, Fred always speaks about Christ with all his clients. The society should think what they want, Fred knew he had the ultimate solution of every problem which is Jesus, and what good is having a solution and not using it?

THE END.
